Focus and Scope
Tuah Multidisciplinary Research (TMR) focuses on the intersection between disciplinary knowledge and complex societal problems in contemporary local, national, and global contexts. It aims to advance innovative, integrative, comparative, and methodologically rigorous research that connects the social sciences, humanities, education, economics, health, and applied sciences with real-world practice, positioning multidisciplinarity as a living and transformative framework for addressing contemporary challenges in human development, cultural transformation, technological change, sustainability, and community welfare.
It covers a range of subjects, including in-depth studies of:
- Theoretical and Methodological Foundations of Multidisciplinary Inquiry — Classical and contemporary theories of interdisciplinarity and knowledge production (Gibbons, Klein, Nowotny, Repko), systems and complexity thinking, and decolonial, comparative, socio-legal, ethnographic, mixed-methods, and empirical methodologies for cross-disciplinary research design.
- Society, Culture, and Humanities in Plural Contexts — Religion, law, language, literature, history, and philosophy in their social settings, including local wisdom and indigenous knowledge, identity and belonging, social cohesion and conflict, gender and vulnerability, migration, and the cultural dynamics of plural societies.
- Education, Learning, and Human Capital Development — Curriculum and pedagogy, literacy and learning outcomes, teacher professional development, inclusive and special-needs education, character and religious education, educational technology and digital learning, and the governance of schools, madrasah, pesantren, and higher education institutions.
- Economics, Business, and Sustainable Development — Development and regional economics, Islamic economics and finance, MSMEs and entrepreneurship, rural and agrarian livelihoods, poverty and inequality, labour and informal work, the digital economy, and business strategy aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Health, Environment, and Community Resilience — Public health and health promotion, maternal and child health, nutrition, mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, health services and policy, environmental health, disaster risk reduction, and community-based resilience in vulnerable and underserved populations.
- Science, Technology, Innovation, and Public Policy — Applied and engineering sciences, agriculture and food systems, informatics, data science and artificial intelligence, digital transformation and governance, technology adoption in developing societies, and the translation of scientific evidence into policy and practice.
