Evaluation of Extracurricular Programs in Nurturing Islamic Elementary School Students' Potential: A Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM) Analysis
Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the extracurricular program designed to nurture students' potential at SD Islam Darunnajah 8 Cidokom, Gunung Sindur Subdistrict, Bogor Regency. The research was conducted using the Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM), focusing on four primary dimensions: program design, implementation, coaching process, and final outcome. A qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design was employed. Data were gathered through observation, semi-structured interviews with the school principal, student affairs team, extracurricular coaches, and students, as well as document reviews. Data validity was verified using source, technique, and time triangulation. Data analysis involved comparing established standards against actual performance in the field to identify discrepancies. The results indicate that the extracurricular program generally operates effectively and contributes positively to developing students' potential, talents, and character. However, discrepancies were identified across all evaluation dimensions: 1) Design: lack of specific formulations and measurable success indicators for each branch; 2) Implementation: uneven distribution of facilities, equipment, and dedicated coaches; 3) Process: inconsistent activity scheduling without standardized makeup sessions; and 4) Outcome: unstandardized and incomplete documentation of student progress. In conclusion, the extracurricular program is worth continuing but requires fundamental improvements in planning guidelines, resource allocation, schedule consistency, and systematic progress reporting.
